Indian Cave

Shown here is the “Indian Cave” on the ridge just northwest of Beavertown, now owned by Bud Mattern. The opening was fairly large in 1937. By the mid 40s the opening “caved in” to about 1/2 of this size. Then later, it either collapsed or was pushed in leaving virtually no opening. It was a site of many crystals and Indian beads outside the entrance.

(Limestone caves and sink holes are often found near one another. Where are two sink holes near Beavertown? Answer next month.)

The first Beavertown High School was located where Barry Hackenberg now lives on Center Street. It was later located on the second floor of the back part of the First National Trust Bank building on the square. Lastly, it was located in a room in the present Borough Building.

In 1929, Beavertown High School was consolidated into BVHS.
