Shown above is the Rose Garden when only a little over one year old. This was one of two photographs that accompanied a very nice article in the Philadelphia Bulletin, issued on August 28, 1949. The article praised Beavertown for its “leadership” in rose culturing. Today it is still well maintained and quite beautiful. Check it out!
(The rent for this plot was 1 red rose until when? Answer next month.)
Answer to Last Month
The Beavertown Brick Company, Inc. was incorporated in 1926.
They bought two fields south of the P.R.R. in town for the plant, and they bought the John J. Tobias farm just outside of town for its shale supply.
CORRECTION:
The photo caption last month had an error. While the photo may have been taken in 1918, it was of a class of an earlier date, possibly 1908.
We got two calls informing us that Annie Gilbert became Mrs. George Soles. Thanks!
