James Kline Cemetery

(Courtesy of Beavertown Historical Society)

This is a photo of James "Daddy" Kline's cemetery which he began in 1914. The name of this solemn ground was later changed to Cedar Hill Cemetery, because of the large number of cedar trees growing nearby. Many of the Beavertown veterans that we honor on Memorial Day are resting in this sanctuary.

Sunbury hosted professional, minor league baseball in the years 1946 through 1955.

The home stadium was the Sunbury Memorial Field. The Yankees were led by Manager Walt VanGrofski and went 51-89 (8th place) in 1947. Notable Sunbury Yankees players include Sam Herman, Carl Braun, and Hank Biasatti. Even though he played with losing teams, Sam was an all-star baseball player.

Shown here is the best black and white image of our first motorized hearse used in western Snyder County during the early 1940s. It was the first motorized hearse used in Beavertown and McClure during the day. The original funeral home was built in 1936, then burned down in 1939, was rebuilt toward the end of 1939 and put back in service.

Beavertown train station in winter

Shown here is the very first passenger rail station in Beavertown. It was remodeled in 1888 with vast improvements. In this station many young men learned the art of telegraphy and worked for the P.R.R. in many parts of the eastern United States.

Mr. Elmer Fall

Shown here is an original painting by Mr. Charles Wetzel, a retired engineer from DuPont Corporation and a distinguished author of a very rare and valuable book on fly fishing. Mr. Fall was an icon in the community. He was an idiot savant who, while ignorant of most things, was a mathematical genius. You could take any date and he could tell you the day of the week that day fell on. He knew the date of birth and death for every person buried in Beavertown's cemeteries.

While he was teased a lot, he was very respected by the citizens of Beavertown.
