The very latest in fashions and jewelry could be obtained at this state of the art shop from the 1890s to about 1915. The models pictured from left to right are: Carrie Wetzel, Mary Engle, Esther Spaid, Emma Kline, and unknown (can you help us?). After Amanda’s shop closed, ladies had to go to the Raught Sisters in Beaver Springs for anything comparable in the field of fashion. (Amanda Specht’s Hat Shop was located at what is now 128 South Center Street, the home of Darvin E. Plummer.)
(Can you name at least two other uses this building had in its time? See next month’s issue for the answer.)
Answer to Last Month
The Beavertown Coronet Band of the Civil War days, and the Beavertown Brass Band of the 1876 period, and the Beavertown Citizen’s Band of the WWI era and into the 1920s are three. There are several others, but we will feature them in the future.
