Doctor I. D. Conrad knew the railroad was coming, so he built this very nice hotel right across from the RR station. It opened just before the first train came (see flashbacks above) and it did a very large and good business up to Prohibition and after, it did some business until December 1981 when the town became dry and the business was discontinued. This building was recently remodeled which removed the attic and the third floor.

Answer to Last Month
Mr. Charles Freed, a WWI veteran, owned a two story frame dwelling with a side yard, and he allowed the Honor Roll to be placed in the front part of this side yard which faced on the main street. Later, this house was torn down, and Mr. William Hackenberg built his home on this lot, which is located at 120 East Market Street. Mr. Hackenberg also had a jewelry store in the northwest side of his home.
