In the 1980 Beavertown Firefighters Parade, the Grand Marshal was Bobby Hackenberg shown here. He was one of the nicest young men ever to come out of Beavertown. He was bright, gentlemanly, and he had a most pleasant disposition. Then he was stricken by the dreaded MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and his promising life was sadly changed forever. Despite this ailment, he was a great credit to our town, and the town chose this honor to show its esteem towards him.

Mr. and Mrs. William Hartley lived in this building at the time of the fire. Later the Hare family lived there, and then Glace Aurand bought it and took it away in order to put in the parking lot.
Donna Mattern told me that her father, Jacob Zechman, took away the old burned down funeral home and salvaged everything he could, even straightening bent nails, and with this salvage he built a brand new home which is still very nice at 401 Sassafras Avenue, the home of Mr. John D. Getz.
