Beavertown Coronet Band
This was the first known band in Beavertown. It started during the Civil War to send off and welcome home the Boys in Blue. This is the band that welcomed the first train into Beavertown in 1871. Shown here they are posing in front of the Beavertown Opera House in which they practiced and played. The photo was taken about 1875. Sorry, we can’t identify any of the members. Can you help?
(What was the last band Beavertown had and when did it break up? Answer next month.)
Answer to Last Month
When the main mode of transportation was live horsepower, a shady tree lined almost tunnel-like road was a real pleasure to drive and the trees served as a handy hitching post in case one was needed. With the coming of the automobile, trees or parts of trees on the road were hazards to be hit. So, as gradually as the car replaced the horse, most trees along Market Street were cut down.
