Frogtown

Notice the chimneys all lined up in a neat row. Also notice the railroad tracks in good repair, and the sign that reads, “CAUTION - DO NOT WALK NOR TRESPASS ON THE RAILROAD.” Sassafras Street was dirt, and not as wide as today. Not easily seen are some buildings (planing mills) where the present Rescue Hose Company is today, and some barn-like structures where the carnival grounds parking lot is today. Does anyone know what these buildings were?

(What is the origin of the name ‘Frogtown’? Answer next month.)

Playing other high school teams such as Freeburg, McClure, and Middleburg in Snyder County, and Laurelton and Mifflinburg in Union County, the 1937 BVHS baseball team, that was their name, played their home games at the athletic field, now the playground of Beaver Adams Elementary School, located in Spring Township. The school itself is located in Beaver Township. This may be the only two municipality facility in all of the United States of America.
