Prior to World War II each town the size of Beavertown had several General Stores where nearly everything you needed could be purchased. Shown here is one of 3 or 4 in Beavertown in about 1920. Today this is Bailor’s Flower Shop, and recently was Shirley’s Flower Shop. Before that it was a video store, a drugstore, a slotcar racetrack center, and other things. But from the 1870s to about the mid 1950s it was a general store.

(Can you name at least four other owners of this general store over the years? Answer next month.)

How many Beavertown members of the Beaver Vocational High School Class of ’46 were war veterans?

James Weissen, Richard Kearns, Daniel Rigel, and LaMar Snyder were World War II veterans.

Gene Camp and Eugene Blee were Korean Conflict veterans.

That represents over 22% of the class, and nearly 50% of the boys of the class (6 of 13).
