This photographic portrait of Elmer Ellsworth Fall was taken by D. Buckner Mattern about 1959. It captures the persona of this much beloved citizen of Beavertown. Another great portrait of Elmer is displayed in the Borough Council Chambers of the Borough Building, painted by a very distinguished citizen of Beavertown, Mr. Charles Wetzel. This is a work of art. Take time and look it over the next time you vote, or are in the Council Chambers otherwise.
(What is at least one other work of art with Elmer as its subject? Answer next month.)

In later years, the old Specht Furniture Factory became the C. T. Saylor and Sons shirt factory. It was Beavertown’s second largest employer and was an essential ingredient in sustaining our local economy.
The building on the southwest corner of Union and Walnut Streets has since been torn down, and a new factory was built next to it. Saylor’s ceased operation but the building is now operated by Inter Mfg. Inc. who makes ladies’ and children’s sporswear, but with a smaller work force.
