(Courtesy of Rev. Stewart Bingman)

This photo was taken at the “Levels” around 1918. It shows James H. Bingman and his mail wagon.

James was a substitute rural mail carrier. His son, Charles F. Bingman was the rural mail carrier. Both were appointed by the Postmaster General on 8-1-1906.

Jim’s granddaughter, Edna Fetterolf later became the Postmaster in Beavertown.

(While not from Beavertown, can you name the other post office officials related to this family? Answer next month.)

This present UCC Church was originally constructed at a cost of $2500 and was dedicated on 10-11-1851 as a Union Church of Reformed and General Council Lutherans. Each congregation was separate and each had its own organization and ministers.

In 1873, the Lutherans split with some joining the General Synod. In 1880, the General Council Lutherans withdrew from this Union and built their own church. The General Synod continued the Union. So over the years, 3 different congregations worshipped in this first church structure in Beavertown.
