Before Albert Bickhart took over operating the barber shop in August 1963, Nance Albert had owned and operated it since 1929. That means that Nance was here for 35 years, but, as of today, Albert has been barbering in this shop for over 36 years, and in August will celebrate 37 years in business. We salute both for their long faithful service. Before we had a library in town, the barber shop for many years had free reading, mainly of Golden Age comic books. (Name three other barbers that once operated in Beavertown. Answer next month.)
Answer to Last Month
Besides the American Legion Post, at one time Beavertown had a Knights of Malta, a post of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, and its ladies component, the Patriotic Order of America. It also had an International Order of the Redman, Odd Fellows, a Campfire Girls, and of course the Grange. There have been other organizations as well in Beavertown in our rich social history.
