Charles Bobb Restaurant

(Courtesy of Cloyd W. Wagner)

Shown here is a photograph of a once great ice cream parlor, general store, and restaurant after it had closed. Mr. and Mrs. Bobb also ran a boarding home, where many silk mill employees and school teachers stayed while in town. The covered sidewalk is now as rare as are covered bridges. We once had many in town, but now only one remains (at the old Post Office). Bobb’s homemade ice cream was a super specialty, and Grapenut was one of the favorite flavors. It was rich and mighty tasty.

(Name two other places where Mr. Bobb had a restaurant in town. Answer next month.)

Answer to Last Month

In addition to being an important teacher in Beavertown, John Pach Walker was also our borough’s second Chief Burgess, or Mayor. He served two terms from 1920 to the end of 1927, and signed three ordinances during his terms of office. (Just as a comparison, in our current Mayor’s first two terms, he signed __ ordinances into law. I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing.)
