Organizations
During the years there have been many organizations. Of these there are eight that are active at the present time, albeit, some are very thin. They are the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Fire Company organized in 1939, Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Company, the Home and School Club, the War Memorial Society, the Union Cemetery Association (See Addendum), and the Beavertown Historical Society.
At one time there was a Beavertown Mutual Insurance Company which was incorporated in 1879 (See Addendum). In 1950, Beavertown had a Chamber of Commerce for a few years. Then there was the Beavertown Literary Society (See Addendum), Grange, the P.O.S. of A., a P.O. of A., and American legion Post, the Knights of Malta, the International Order of Redmen, The Odd Fellows, The W.C.T.U., The Beavertown Checker Club, The first P.T.A. in Snyder County, the Knights of the Maccabees and town bands composed of all men or boys, the first being the Beavertown Coronet Band, the Beavertown Brass Band, the Beavertown Citizen’s Band, and the Beavertown Boy’s Band. One musical organization of both sexes was the Beavertown Chamber Orchestra.
(NOTE: Where you see (See Addendum), it means that a full chapter or story on this subject will be included in this history in a future issue.)
The Honorable Ner Middleswarth
Ner Middleswarth was born some place in New Jersey on December 12, 1783. As a boy he moved with his family to a large tract of land they purchased about one mile south of Beavertown. A log cabin was built in the thick of the forest, and land was gradually cleared for crops. Indians would visit the spring upon which the family depended. Ner had only three months of formal schooling, and for the most part was a farm boy living in a rough but wholesome fashion. He was self-taught in both the English and Pennsylvania German languages and spoke both fluently. He grew up to be a strong 200 pound man, filled with a strong sense of duty to his friends and neighbors.

Misc. Notes on the Town
U.S. Postal Service
The Post Office was started in Beavertown in 1815 and by 1827 the receipts had increased to $20.19, not for a day or a week or a month, but for the entire year of 1827.
Transportation
You will notice that on some of the older properties there are barns. This is because before the automobile days most folks had a horse or two.
