Middleswarth Chip Factory

(Courtesy of Cindy Folk)

The first chip operation was on the property of Ira Middleswarth. When sales demands increased, a plant was built and operated in Beavertown. In this photo we see Betty Narehood Spigelmyer, Jennette Hackenberg Bingman, and Elda McClellen Aumiller working in this new plant. Later, they moved to a new plant that was built in Middleburg.

(Why did Bob Middleswarth move the operation away from Beavertown? Answer next month.)

Answer to Last Month

Pictured in last month's History Corner were Orval Kerstetter, Anna Zechman, Phyllis Zechman, Bob Herbster, and an unknown girl, "Chubb" Specht, Robert Ritter, and William Edwin Walker, the owner's son.

Obviously, Bailey's had a soda bar when they took over, but Charles Bobb also had an ice cream parlor, and used only his own made very rich ice cream. In addition, when the Cara Farms built their permanent dairy bar, it and the successors had soda bar services. Others were possibly Hassinger's and Saylor's, but we are not sure about this. Can anyone help us? Were there others? Call the editor if you know of any.
