Beaver Vocational High School - 1928

Just after the first land grant high school in the U.S.A. was completed in 1928, except for landscaping, and ready to accept the first classes of students ... we see it pictured here with two young ladies and a "scarecrow" in the middle. We think one of the girls was Pauline Peters Kern, but we have no idea who the other one might be. We now hold grand reunions of the alumni, as you can see on page 1.

(What other great American organization was formed by the federal bill that gave us BVHS? Answer next month.)

Answer to Last Month

When the disposal of potato peelings and waste water became too costly to truck away, the operation transferred to a new plant in Middleburg where the sanitary sewer system took this waste away very inexpensively. Had Beavertown had a sanitary sewer system, the factory would have likely remained here in town. In last month's issue, we identified three ladies that were in that photo and from a very reliable source we learn one was in error. The one listed as Elda Aumiller was in fact Betty Kratzer Ritter. Sorry about that!
